The scene opens to see Steve Murdock sitting at the end of a hotel bed facing the window, looking at the Willamette River.
Murdock ‘s dressed in blue jeans, black Converse sneakers, and white “Upstarts” t-shirt that has a small red stain on the right side of his abdomen. He's seemingly being held together with a bandage on his forehead, bits of kinesio tape peeking through his back collar and standard medical tape wrapped around gauze on his waist.
“Yeah, it looks like I’ve seen better days, but if I have to crawl, if I’m dragged by feet, if Upper Management has to hire an EMT to strap me to a gurney and wheel me out, I’ll be in the ring.”
“Not for the money, as you can see, I’m not swimming in sports cars or private jets, but just for you, Mammoth, because I will give you my one hundred percent, even when I’m at seventy, eighty, generously.”
He rubs his side a little bit, wincing.
“If you watch the product, you would’ve just seen me go through a hell of a fight at Warzone in a Parking Lot Brawl, yes, I lost, but, since you’re new, let me warn you, me being called a Hardcore Icon is not something I got trademarked and printed on shirts just to sell, it’s what brings out the best in me, and alternately the worst experience for my opponents.”
“But I’ve done a little homework, and you are deficient a beast, I have no illusions about that, but what caught my eye was one of your aspirations, you might say…”
“You think there’s a freak, a monster in everyone, and you want to bring that out in your opponents, maybe make them feel more honest about themselves and who they really are.”
Murdock reaches for the bandage over his forehead and slowly peels it off, revealing the cuts he sustained from being bashed repeatedly into various car parts by Valora Salinas.
He starts smacking the cut with his left hand, scratching and opening one of the wounds, which starts trickling blood down his face.
“The monster is already here, Mammoth, all you have to do is survive..”
