Couldn't sleep this night so I used this time for a random feedback. Have fun or cry in a corner!
But before I get started to run down the show I finally have re-read it through, I want to address the consistently occuring issue: It seems I got the most complicated or hardest to spell name of all names here used.
Whoever did wrote and comment my match did succeed on spelling not only one but BOTH names wrong. Throughout the whole match.
It's neither Vandenburg nor Raveena (or Revenna on the Beat the clock challenge results table).
It's Ravenna Vandenberg. I'll give some mnemonics to try to remember correct spelling:
- Ravenna with two 'n's: studies show that's easier to keep geographical object or a pop-culture reference in mind if it's connected to something else not related to. Ravenna is a big city in Italy known for historical and cultural value. Or Ravenna is the name of the evil Queen in Snow White movie (with Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron who's playing the queen and is the head pic base for the wrestler (see twitter!)).
- Vandenberg with the 'e': like the US Air Force base known for spaceport and ICBMs.
Now this issue hopefully cleared for the future (or else I have to change her name in probably worse...), lets go to the show itself!
I'm very glad that I've returned to CWF after RJ told me about the relaunch with new staff. I've talked about the complications after the show first release in Discord, so no more word here.
The shows begins with the acting commissioner Bloise McClansky ( ) who not only sets new premises for the whole season, he corrects the past mistakes, too. I really liked that CWF gets in order with taking out politics of Lazarus' both parties because I wasn't a fan of it as in my opinion the leadership war was way too soon for still fresh CWF with unknown overlord mixed in. That was bit too much on the plate. Now we just have one clear authority who just does his work and a lawsuit still ongoing in the background, ready for surprises of many kinds anytime. Beat the clock challenge is an interesting way to determine the champions and ranking of contestants. Sounds interesting, however I don't know if it's a good idea to use the results right here for a title shoot in several weeks... or I misunderstood that. Well, it's still too early to judge in full.
First match with swapped opponent of CJ Walker. In my opinion it was 50/50. CJ Walker definitely stepped up with his roleplays but the Andi had one of most awesome roleplays this week. As CJ had the misadvantage for not knowing much about Snow, I think it's was right decision. I liked the match but it felt it was going much longer thant 8:30 minutes (not relating to Beat the clock challenge).
Once again Blaise makes clear that actions have consequences and does this, too, by fine CJ. Sounds like an angle to me, especially after seeing the next card and CJ ranting scenes. I'm actually excited to see how it goes.
I liked how Pacific Rim was introduced to CWF. It's bit like old-school like promoting short videos brought in the shows.
Plastic Man Ken Howard against HumanOrNot NotYeti... riiiiiight. I'm glad that the match was changed because... lets say the first release was rather "unfortunate". Now the final revision has now a nice comedy effect in it, NotYeti scream making Ken tapping out... Never seen that, lol.
Ah, the abducted Union Jack, almost forgot about that. Yeah, good continuitation segment, much needed here. Iron Wolf is worred but stil calm with a friend standing by side. A sight we do not often can enjoy.
Ken Howard actually throwing a little tantrum... I don't know but I honestly didn't expect that from Ken. And I absolutely like the idea that Howard is using shameless his Ken doll reputation, even well knowing about that.
Damian Payne tries to break the synthetic arm of Iro Waters, obvious idea. I've read some about Iro Waters, might be an interesting character with a lot of potential. The handler knows how to tell a story, that's for sure.
Alyssa gets finally her ten (eight after counting since I'm nitpicker) question answered without interruption. Don't know if it's great. I somehow liked the running gag in the past but weirdly enough I liked this Lucchi segment without interruption, too. Anyway, it's absolutely clear why and with which goals the Bastards are here and it seems they're going from the start to the top already. I like that the Rob Riot (despite his name) is very much level-head and almost babyface in comparison to his both friends.
Now the tag team match with contestants who has a storyline (and paranoid Lil MC) going on. Gotta say this storyline with abducted Jack is one of few obvious stories so far. Thus the win of Wolf O' Dactyl was much needed at this point. Now we know Armand is behind of all this with that weird twin. I'm hooked!
Next, we get the double debut match and thanks to the commentary both seem to share a history. Sounds like a starter for a feud, maybe.
Tarrasque and Black Mamba... well it's clearly one-sided story with no-show win for Tarrasque, however surprised me again with 9:00 clock time. Thought it 7:00ish would be better. The match was obviously one of three unfinished matches before release and it's a nice touch to describe the match only by the commentary.
Yes, the CJ ranting segment against CWF generally and Blaise specifically. And as we know now Blaise answers with Gauntlet match. It's fun now that CJ's complaining about it afterwards despite wanting to fight the whole roster; not really doing good for his cred. I'm curious to read his next RP (not done yet).
Frank Windsor obliterates Tex Attwater. No idea why exactly, because Tex was actually a good gimmick and has some nice RPs. I guess, an internal issue or something as far as I've heard.
Then immediately the next match, the legendary Riot against Lana. The win of Riot was naturally expected and I’m disappointed for Lana’s handler, to be honest. Your one roleplay was kind of repetitive, contributing only little to Lana’s character development, especially when it's related to wrestling - if at all. At least you wrote something about the last match, but an absolute zero about the next match or Rob Riot. Bam I suggest you make a big change in your way of roleplaying because if you keep doing that, you’ll end up as a “royal” jobber for the rest of the season.
Thus I’m unhappy that Rob Riot, of all people, got a cheap shot at championship. And now after reading the show to this point, I’m getting doubt about that idea with Beat the Clock challenge. I mean it’s not saying about the quality or experience of the wrestler and the Challenge can be easily rigged if not controlled. I mean, a longer match doesn’t mean fighters are worse, rather it's the opposite. And as said, it can be manipulated. For example what if (hypothetically) Rob Riot and Frank Windsor have a match and right after the bell, Frank immediately taps out of nowhere yet it’s technically not wrong? Then the 0:01 would be unbeatable… (which almost happened to Jack Tyde because of a no-showing opponent). And I absolutely do not want to see shorter and shorter matches in the next weeks.
The Valor Championship match… technically it was two championship matches, an interesting way to solve the problem of an absent champion. Some time before the show I was asked by staff if I could do some roleplay to compete in the Valor Championship; the result wasn’t determined if anyone’s asking.
Aside from the distracting issue with wrong spelling I enjoyed the match. Despite lacking strats (sorry for that!) The match-writer did a good job. Cookie for you. 🙂
And now the main event with that huge match between Davis and Tetsuo. Damn good stuff to read, and to be honest, 50/50 win for everybody; I could live with either. Of course it’s a bonus for me as an FSS member. 😛 The match was absolutely worth as main event and as closure of the tonight’s show.
In overall, the show was a good one season kickstarter (and CWF 2.0 too) though there is room for some improvements (Beat the Clock challenge, that little too obvious Bastards top 3 ranking and other things I mentioned before).
Kudos for bringing graphics in; those creative ads have a special place in my laughing heart..
The quality of commentary proves once again why it’s so important that Eddie Vega and Ben Price pick up whatever is happening. And those puns… One memorable was the Scammer of Brookyln Bridge note which actually happened in history (I believe it was the same guy who sold the Eiffel tower… twice). Somebody knows his stuff. ;-)
